Red Dwarf XI lands on Dave next week, but you can already watch the first episode online through UKTV Play.
The eleventh series of the legendary sci-fi comedy reunites the original cast of Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), along with a host of guest stars, for a brand new series recorded in front of a live studio audience at Pinewood Studios.
The new run is written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator, Doug Naylor, and produced by Richard Naylor and Kerry Waddell for Baby Cow Productions & Grant Naylor Productions.
Season 11 spans six episodes and sees two of the Dwarfers’ dreams come true: Rimmer accidentally saves the life of a Space Corps Captain and is promoted to Officer, while Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall in love with a female Cat, who holds a secret. Meantime, Lister wakes up to discover a deranged droid has stolen some of his body parts and Kryten has a mid-life crisis and considers leaving the Dwarfers for a younger crew.
The season kicks off with Twentica, an episode that finds the posse in an alternate America, where modern technology is outlawed, making both Kryten and Rimmer illegal.
The show has been a centre-piece of Dave’s original content in recent years, since it brought back the sci-fi for its Back to Earth three-part special in 2009. Indeed, the channel is pulling out all the stops, also teaming up with with Matrix to create the first official Red Dwarf merchandise in over 10 years – and even partnering with GameDigits to make th efirst ever Red Dwarf mobile game, produced in close collaboration with Naylor. The launch of both the merchandise and the game will coincide with the release of Red Dwarf XI on Thursday 22nd March.
Fans who can’t smegging wait until then, though, can catch an exclusive preview on UKTV Play, with the full episode available to stream right now. It is available on UKTV’s VOD service until 22nd October.
