House of Cards Season 4 gets Netflix’s vote for 2016

House of Cards Season 4 has been given the green light by Netflix.
The Netflix original series, written by Beau Willimon, is based on the BBC series of the same name and stars Kevin Spacey as scheming politician Frank Underwood, with Robin Wright playing his wife, Claire.
The show premiered to universal acclaim in 2013, prompting a further two seasons, each launching in February. During that time, Robin Wright has won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in the drama and Kevin Spacey has taken home a Globe for Best Actor.
“The writers & I have been secretly writing for months hehe,” tweeted Willimon, when the news of the fourth run was announced.
It is no surprise, though, that the VOD service wants more: the programme, with its glossy production and classy cast, has become synonymous with the Netflix original brand. (Returning members of the ensemble for Season 3 included Mahershala Ali, Jayne Atkinson and Molly Parker. There has been no announcement yet on the line-up for Season 4.)
Moreover, the timing could not be better. Season 3 focused on Underwood’s campaign for the 2016 US presidential election. With the actual event only a year away, the series would be missing out on a major opportunity to tie in its cynical plotting and political games with the real, often disillusioned world.
“I will leave a legacy,” tweeted the official @HouseofCards account. We’ll have to wait until 2016 to find out what exactly that legacy is.
