ITV has ordered a third season of Trigger Point.
Starring Vicky McClure in the lead role of bomb disposal operative or ‘expo’ Lana Washington, Trigger Point follows a team of bomb disposal officers as they work to keep the capital safe from explosive devices and terrorist threats.
“Relentless pacing and a committed turn from Vicky McClure makes this intense bomb disposal thriller a riveting watch,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
The second season, which aired in January this year, has been streamed 30m times on ITVX and was the second most-watched drama on ITV1 this year, following Mr Bates vs the Post Office.
Season 3 will see Lana Washington and her team called to investigate a bomb threat that soon reveals itself to be the start of a sinister vendetta. Someone is targeting individuals, and demanding revenge. Working alongside the Police Counterterrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Squad race against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim.
Produced by Jed Mercurio’s HTM Television, the lead writer for the third season is Chris Brandon (Bloodlands). It will be directed by Jamie Donoghue (Doctor Who, A Discovery of Witches) and Audrey Cooke (Trigger Point, DI Ray) and the series producer is Kristian Dench (Red Eye). Executive producers are Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty, Breathtaking) Daniel Walker (The Tourist, Boat Story), Jessica Sharkey (Breathtaking, Derry Girls), Chris Brandon and Vicky McClure.
Alongside McClure, returning cast members for Season 3 will include Eric Shango (On The Edge), Nabil Elouahabi (Blue Lights, Unforgotten), Natalie Simpson (North Sea Connection) and Maanuv Thiara (DI Ray, Landscapers).
Polly Hill commented: “I am delighted that Trigger Point will be returning for a third series and Vicky McClure will be reprising her role as Lana Washington. The whole cast are amazing in this series and HTM are a great team to work with. There’s going to be lots more twists and turns and of course explosions in this third series, viewers are going to love it!”
Filming will take place in London in 2025..
