A new animated series based on Midnight Sun is in the works at Netflix.

The 2020 novel by Stephenie Meyers is a companion novel to the Twilight series, which followed Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to Forks, Washington, and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. The novels began with Twilight in 2005, before being adapted into a string of films that started in 2008, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The sequels included New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Breaking Dawn Part 2.

In 2020, eight years after the release of the final film, Meyers released Midnight Sun, a retelling of the first story from the perspective of Edward Cullen. Now, Netflix is bringing that story to the screen in animated form.

Sinead Daly (Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) will write the series and serve as exec-producer. Meyer will also exec-produce the project, alongside her Fickle Fish Films partner Meghan Hibbett, as well as Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey for Picturestart.
