Sky picks up Hacks Season 3 and 4
27th January 2025
Hacks has found a new UK home for its third and fourth season.
The HBO Max comedy from creators Paul W Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old (Hannah Einbinder). It is created and showrun by Emmy winners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky. It is executive produced by Downs and Aniello via their Paulilu banner, Statsky via First Thought Productions, as well as Emmy® winners Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
In 2022, Amazon Prime Video became the exclusive home for the show, with Season 1 arriving that spring, followed by the second season the following year. However, since then, there’s been no further release of subsequent seasons on this side of the pond – until now.
Sky has exclusively acquired the rights to Season 3 and 4. Season 3 will premiere on Sky Comedy and NOW on 7th February, Season 1 and 2 will also arrive alongside that third season, although the first two seasons are remaining on Amazon Prime Video for the immediate future. Later this year, Season 4 will then debut exclusively on Sky Comedy and NOW.
The news comes shortly after the series enjoyed success in the Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy categories at the 2025 Golden Globes.
Hacks renewed for Season 3
18th June 2022
HBO Max has renewed Hacks for a third season.
The comedy from creators Paul W Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, explores the dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old (Hannah Einbinder). Deborah Vance has blazed a trail through the male-dominated comedy scene for decades, hustling her way into a prime Las Vegas residency while simultaneously cultivating a successful brand of luxury items and endorsements. But when the casino owner threatens to pull back on her nights in favour of younger acts, Deborah’s manager Jimmy pitches another one of his clients, upcoming yet already disgraced TV writer Ava, to help freshen up her set.
“Say hello to your new favourite double-act in this funny, smart and warm odd couple comedy,” we wrote in our review.
The result was an Emmy-winning success in its first season, winning prizes for both its writing and Smart’s performance. Season 2, which sees Vance and Ava head out across the country and continue pushing back against every preconception going, arrived on our screens last month, with Amazon Prime Video remaining the exclusive UK TV home of the show.
Now, a month of its debut on this side of the pond, HBO has announced that it has already greenlit a third run.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, said: “We congratulate HACKS’ extraordinarily gifted executive producers and cast, and our partners at Universal Television. We are overjoyed at the audience and press response to the new season, and glad to give viewers more of this gorgeous, hilarious, moving show.”
Erin Underhill, President, Universal Television, added: “The first two seasons of HACKS — expertly crafted by Lucia, Paul and Jen — gave us beloved, complex characters who make us laugh and feel deeply. We’re thrilled that our HBO Max partners have renewed this standout series for a third season, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for Deborah, Ava and the rest of our outstanding ensemble.”

“It’s all about back to basics…” That’s the sound of Hacks returning for Season 2, as the show sees its unlikely double act go on tour.

Earlier this year, the show finally premiered in the UK on Amazon Prime Video, but HBO Max had already greenlit a second season back in June last year – and now, a new trailer gives a look at Season 2.
Joined once again by Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Hamilton) as Marcus, Deborah’s trusted longtime COO, Season 2 sees Vance and Ava head out across the country and continue pushing back against every preconception going. Season 2 will premiere on HBO Max on 12th May – and, with Amazon Prime Video now the official UK home for the show, that means you can expect the wait on this side of the pond to be much shorter than for the first season.
