Taskmaster returns for Christmas special

Taskmaster returns tonight for a Christmas special – and what could be more festive than forcing a group of celebrities to do stupid things for meaningless prizes?
Critically-acclaimed and BAFTA-nominated, UKTV announced that its absurdly silly TV tournament would return for a Christmas outing earlier this year. The two-part special will bring together all five of the show’s season champions for the ultimate battle. Josh Widdicombe, Katherine Ryan, Noel Fielding, Rob Beckett, and Bob Mortimer will be set a collection of confounding new assignments in a fight to become the ultimate Taskmaster Champion of Champions, watched over, as ever, by Greg Davies and Alex Horne.
The festive special arrives after a typically side-splitting fifth season, which saw Bob Mortimer walk away with the crown.
“The frankly ridiculous comedy has become one of Dave’s flagship programmes, and with good reason,” we wrote in our review. “Requiring contestants to carry out the most pointless, arbitrary tasks imaginable, it’s evolved into the Shooting Stars of reality telly. The I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue of TV contests.”
Indeed, the programme is the highest-rated UKTV series of 2017 and one of UKTV Play’s most watched commissions this year. All of those episodes are still available on the catch-up app, along with the previous four seasons – and they will soon be joined by the first half of the Christmas special, which airs at 9pm on Dave on Wednesday 13th December.
