What’s leaving Sky and NOW TV in November / December 2017?
David Farnor | On 20, Nov 2017
Sky Cinema is bracing itself for the festive season with its dedicated Sky Cinema Christmas channel, showcasing its line-up of seasonal films old and new, all available on-demand. But while Santa’s coming down the chimney, some festive favourites are sneaking out the back door, as movies like The Nightmare before Christmas quietly bid farewell.
Not a Sky customer? You can get access to the whole Sky Cinema catalogue for £9.99 a month. Whichever you subscribe to, this is your last chance to stream the following:
Steve Jobs – 20th November
Danny Boyle’s biopic of the computing genius offers a gripping, moving insight into the man behind Apple’s success.
The Survivalist – 21st November
An engaging, suspenseful and visually striking thriller.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 22nd November
“Chewie… we’re home.”
The Revenant – 22nd November
Proof that Leonardo DiCaprio will go to any extreme for an award, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s intense survival epic set on the fur-trading frontier of the 1820s sees DiCaprio’s trapper chased through the woods, battered by blizzards and mauled by a bear. Thank goodness they gave him an Oscar for his performance, or who knows what he might have done next?
The Mummy (1999) – 30th November
Balancing adventure, horror, action and laughs, 1999’s rollicking reboot of The Mummy is that rare thing: a real successor to Indiana Jones.
The Nightmare Before Christmas – 30th November
Tim Burton’s stop-motion flick takes the festive charm of Christmas and twists it with the warped horror of Halloween – a combination that director Henry Selick whips up with visually breathtaking glee. Combined with Danny Elfman’s superb soundtrack (Elfman sings the part of Pumpkin Jack), this is one musical guaranteed to freak out the whole family. Best of all, you can watch it again next October.
Deadpool – 3rd December
Nothing says Christmas like a self-aware superhero swearing, having sex and popping pop-culture references directly to camera.
Black Mass – 8th December
Who doesn’t love a heavy-hitting drama? Scott Cooper clearly does, switching from Crazy Heart to this Boston tale of corruption, with Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton delivering weighty performances as notorious gangster Jimmy “Whitey” Bolger and the cop trying to bring him down.
