As March descends, another wave of titles get ready to depart into the streaming ether – and judging by this list, NOW and Sky On Demand’s catalogue will be all the poorer for it. On the one hand, Agent Carter’s second season and The Knick begin to disappear, alongside The Lego Movie and Noah. On the other hand, A New York Winter’s Tale and Jersey Shore follow.

The Emperor’s New Groove – 25th February

“Yay, I’m a llama again!… Wait.”

Disney’s overlooked 2000 adventure sees the self-centred Emperor Kuzco turned into a llama by his bitter ex-servant, Yzma. So he sets out to become human once more, accompanied by modest (in both personality and brains) sidekick, Pacha (John Goodman). Oh, and let’s not forget Kronk, Yzma’s henchman, who can talk to squirrels.

Noah – 27th February

Examining what it takes to blindly follow instructions that will wipe out the rest of humanity, Darren Aronofsky’s version of Noah is bold and idiosyncratic, taking into account everything from fertility and sin to evolution itself. Russell Crowe and Ray Winstone go full pelt in this Biblical epic.

The Lego Movie – 27th February

A laugh-out-loud anti-capitalist satire created to advertise a capitalist giant’s child-friendly toy? Somehow, The LEGO Movie works. Is it Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s anarchic sense of humour (see 22 Jump Street)? Chris Pratt and the rest of the excellent voice cast’s comic timing? The non-stop fascination of watching tiny bricks come together? Or is it the toe-tapping soundtrack? Either way, everything about this really is awesome.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Collector’s Edition – 29th February

Do do doo. Dum. Dummmm. Steven Spielberg made jaws drop with those five notes in a deceptively simple piece about mankind connecting with a higher power. Richard Dreyfus is scarily obsessed with the idea of extra terrestrials, even to the point of it shaping his mashed potato. But however disruptive his behaviour becomes, Close Encounters of the Third Kind’s power comes from the peaceful nature of their contact – a gently revolutionary notion that makes this a unique entry in the genre and, indeed, one of the greatest science fiction films of all time.

Enter the Dragon – 29th February

Bruce Lee kicks ass in this martial arts classic.

Labor Day – 3rd March

Jason Reitman returns after Young Adult with this curious, sentimental drama that sees escaped convict Frank (Josh Brolin) hide out with a mother (Kate Winslet) and her son. Soon enough, they’re bonding and baking pie together. As you do.

A New York Winter’s Tale – 4th March

Colin Farrell stars in this barmy fantasy about a thief raised by a demon (Russell Crowe), who falls in love with an heiress (Jessica Brown Findlay) and finds himself having to fight for his life against Lucifer, who is played by Will Smith. We’ll pause for a minute to let that sentence sink in. (A contender for the best worst film of that year.)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 11th March

One of Marvel’s best to date, the sequel to Captain American takes Steve Rogers’ biggest flaw – his unwavering nobility and honesty – and contrasts it with a modern world of espionage and double-crosses. The result is more 70s political thriller than superhero movie and all the better for it.

Air Force One – 16th March

“Get off my plane!” Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman ham it up in this wonderfully trashy action flick about terrorists taking over the US President’s plane.

The Blacklist Season 3 – Episode 1 to 8 – 26th February

James Spader stars in the hit FBI drama.

Marvel’s Agent Carter: Season 2, Episode 1 – 27th February

Peggy’s back and she’s better than ever in the second run of Marvel’s small-screen spin-off from Captain America. Hayley Atwell. James D’Arcy. Flamingoes. We could list reasons to watch this for hours.

Nashville: Season 2 – 28th February

Callie Khouri’s TV series, which follows a range of country singers in Nashville, Tennessee, is full of guitars, gossip and people grappling with fame. On the downside, the musicians are all fictitious. On the plus side, one is played by the brilliant Hayden Panettiere.

Jersey Shore: Season 1 to 6 – 29th February

MTV’s reality TV series ended in 2012, but that hasn’t stopped it being a popular title among NOW and Sky audiences.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand – 29th February

Spartacus fans, beware: your life is about to have a lot fewer blood-splattered, topless people in it, as Gods of the Arena and Vengeance also depart on the same day.

Dinosaur 13 – 2nd March

A complete T-Rex skeleton had never been found until “Sue” was discovered by Peter Larson in the South Dakota desert. It turns out, though, that the dino excavation business is a lot more complex than just digging bones up and giving them to museums: it’s an actual business. With rare artefacts up for grabs, it’s not just academics after them, but commercial traders too. This documentary about the legal and personal battles over the ownership of the landmark fossil is a gripping and entertaining ride.

The Knick: Season 1 – 2nd March

Steven Soderbergh has famously hung up his movie hat for TV land – and The Knick is a promising sign why. This period series, which stars Clive Owen as the head surgeon in the titular hospital, is a gripping tale of outdated ER practices, racial prejudices and drug addiction. Because nothing says “Golden Age of Television” quite like Clive Owen snorting coke and holding a scalpel. Forget Grey’s Anatomy: this is where the real medical drama happens. With a soundtrack by Drive’s Cliff Martinez, it’s no wonder that Cinemax has renewed the show for a second season, starting in January.

Whitechapel: Season 1 – 6th March

It’s no Ripper Street, but if you’ve never caught up with ITV’s crime drama, this is your final chance.

The Knick: Season 2 – 15th March

Because the TV gods are cruel, NOW will not only lose the box set of Season 1 of The Knick next month, but Season 2 will be taken from us too.
