It takes a lot to get someone to stick to their sofa in this summer heatwave, but Amazon Prime Video’s list of departing movies may well woo you to spend an extra couple of minutes in your living rom. The end of July bids farewell to one of the best sci-fi movies of recent years, some classic action movies, a powerfully moving documentary and a Watergate thriller that remains all too topical today.

Alfonso Cuaron’s survival thriller/sci-fi, which appears to unfold all in a single take, is nail-bitingly tense – and heart-poundingly emotional.

All the President’s Men – 27th July

Alan J. Pakula’s account of how journalists Woodward and Bernstein uncovered the Watergate scandal is not only gripping, but also becomes more relevant and topical every year that goes by.

The Hangover – 27th July

A shallow film that skimps on everything except the jokes – but they always hit the mark.

Mad Max – 31st July

With our ears only just stopping ringing from the awesomeness of Fury Road, now’s the perfect time to go back and check out the original Mad Max – before it disappears, along with Mad Max 2 and Beyond Thunderdome.

Bullitt – 4th August

From Steve McQueen to that car chase, this is a stone cold classic.

Journey 2 – The Mysterious Island – 4th August

Before Rampage came this fun family blockbuster that showcased The Rock’s effortless screen charisma. Jokes, Jules Verne and Michael Caine riding a giant bee. What more could you want?

Amy – 8th August

Asif Kapadia’s superbly made documentary is a powerful, moving portrait of a tragically young artist.
