What’s leaving Netflix UK in May / June 2019?
David Farnor | On 18, May 2019
May means not one but two bank holidays, and with one long weekend still to go, there’s never been a better time to catch up on the TV series and films that are set to depart in the coming month. From space drama and time travel thrills to supernatural scares, this is your last chance to stream the following:
Passengers – 20th May
As the corporate starship Avalon ploughs through space with 5,000 hibernating settlers on board, engineer Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) finds himself erroneously awoken early from hypersleep – 90 years before the ship reaches its destination. After months alone, he makes the decision to wake up beautiful fellow passenger Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence)…
Horns – 21st May
Daniel Radcliffe stars in this dark fantasy horror rom Alexandre Aja, based on the book of the same name by Joe Hill
12 Monkeys – 25th May
Season 3 of this excellent adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s time travel classic is the only one left on Netflix UK, as they’ve all migrated to Amazon Prime, so if you’ve enjoyed the first two, don’t miss the chance to complete the trio before it hops.
What Maisie Knew – 29th May
Based on Henry James’ classic novel, Scott McGehee and David Siegel’s drama is a heartbreakingly honest tale of one girl growing up amid her parents’ divorce, featuring a stellar trio of performances from Julianne Moore, Steve Coogan and the young Onata Aprile.
Jumanji (1995) – 30th May
Robin Williams is on charming form in this daft family adventure about a magical board game.
A Quiet Passion – 31st May
“Because I could not stop for Death, he kindly stopped for me.” Cynthia Nixon is on superb form in this gentle biopic of poet Emily Dickinson.
Speed Sisters – 31st May
Amber Fares’ documentary about female racers in Palestine is fast, furious and heartwarming film-making.
You Can Count on Me – 2nd June
Kenneth Lonergan bagged two Oscar nominations (Screenplay and Actress) with his 2000 debut, which stars Laura Linney as Sammy, a single mother living in a small New York community. She is joined by a supporting cast that includes Mark Ruffalo, Rory Culkin, and Matthew Broderick. It would be 11 years until Lonergan finally released his second movie, Margaret, starring Anna Paquin.
Gravity – 4th June
Alfonso Cuaron’s survival thriller/sci-fi, which appears to unfold all in a single take, is nail-bitingly tense – and heart-poundingly emotional.
The Big Lebowski – 6th June
Jeff Bridges is on hilarious form as Jeff Lebowski, aka. “the Dude,” a laid-back, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money…
