With summer in full swing, people across the country are asking themselves what to watch now that the World Cup and Wimbledon are over. For Netflix users, the first port of call should be the below list of titles departing soon – because the only thing worse than being indoors on a bright, sunny day is being indoors on a bright, sunny day and realising that you no longer have your favourite movie or TV show on tap.

This month is your last chance to stream the following:

Pain & Gain – 22nd July

Michael Bay’s crime comedy follows a trio of body-builders, who get caught up in a kidnapping that goes wrong. Based on real events, the satire is the closest the Transformers director has come to an indie movie – and stars a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg and an amusingly over-the-top Dwayne Johnson.

Joy – 24th July

Jennifer Lawrence reteams with fellow American Hustlers and Silver Linings Playbookers Bradley Cooper and writer-director David O. Russell for this offbeat biopic about Joy Mangano, the entrepreneurial young mother who made her fortune as the inventor of… the Miracle Mop.

It Follows – 28th July

Imagine someone walking towards you. Not very scary, is it? Wait until you see It Follows. David Robert Mitchell’s horror thriller follows Jay (Maika Monroe), who finds herself on a date gone terrifyingly wrong, when she wakes up post-sex strapped to a chair and is told that something is going to try and kill her. Why? We don’t know. Who? We don’t know that either. What we do know is that this entity will continue following her until it catches her and shuffles her off her mortal coil. It’s clever. It’s unconventional. And it’s very, very creepy.

Person of Interest – 31st July

Jim Caviezel stars in Jonathan Nolan’s crime thriller, which sees a former CIA officer trying to stop crimes in New York that are predicted by a machine.

X-Men 2 – 31st July

Led by Hugh Jackman’s Logan – and his charismatic sideburns – Bryan Singer’s superhero sequel is an ensemble blockbuster that gives every team member equal attention; an epic that somehow stays intimate.

The Way He Looks – 31st July

Daniel Ribeiro’s The Way He Looks, based on his 2010 short film, is a moving coming-of-age story that follows a blind high school student in Brazil, who is taking his first steps towards both independence and sexuality.

Shakespeare in Love – 31st July

“Strangely enough, it all turns out well.” “How?” “I don’t know. It’s a mystery.”

8 Mile – 31st July

Lose yourself in Curtis Hanson’s thoughtful exploration of a city and a subculture.

Miles Ahead – 31st July

Kind of blue and effortlessly cool, Don Cheadle’s unconventional music biopic about the legendary jazz trumpeter has attitude to spare.

I Am Divine – 31st July

Two man-children try to rob a store and end up working there in this fast and funny British comedy that leaves you with a smile on your face.

Listen Up Philip – 31st July

Jason Schwartzman is impeccable in Alex Ross Perry’s obnoxious, awkward and highly, highly amusing comedy about a self-important writer.

Magic Mike XXL – 12th August

This adorable CG animation remakes The Peanuts comics with real love, talent and wit.

Selma – 14th August

David Oyelowo is unrecognisable as Martin Luther King in this stirring, powerful drama, which follows his historic march for voting rights in Alabama in 1965.

Zombieland – 14th August

Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson are a comedy double act to die for in Ruben Fleischer’s horror comedy. Travelling across zombified America in search of safety – and a Twinkie – this is a warped, witty ride that unfolds at breakneck speed.
