The Legend of Korra – 31st December

If you’ve seen the fantastic animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender (also leaving on the same day), then make sure you check out its sequel. The Daytime Emmy Award-winning series follows Avatar Korra trying to defend Republic City from spiritual and physical evil forces. The result is epic, stunning, ambitious and brilliant.

The BFG – 1st January

A galumphing warm hug of a film, The BFG completely captures the wide-eyed wonder of childhood.

In the House – 1st January

A story about storytelling, this is witty and creepy in equal measure.

Loving – 1st January

Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton are remarkable in Jeff Nichols’ quietly powerful story of an important romance.

Lovesick – 1st January

“Finding love. It’s all disappointment and heartbreak and misery. Until it isn’t.” Initially aired on Channel 4, this very British take on the rom-com is an enjoyably dark affair, following a hapless 20-something Dylan (Johnny Flynn), who, after receiving a troubling diagnosis, resolves to contact everyone he’s ever slept with to tell them the news.

The Other Guys – 1st January

This police comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlbergh never shoots to kill, but frequently finds your funny bone.

Living – 2nd January

An ordinary man receives news which compels him to rejig his outlook on life in this Oscar-nominated drama starring Bill Nighy.

Munich – 7th January

One of Spielberg’s most underrated films, this dark 2005 thriller follows five men, who are chosen to find the terrorists responsible for taking 11 Israeli athletes hostage and murdering them following Munich’s 1972 Olympics.

Titanic – 14th January

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are on iconic form in James Cameron’s superbly sentimental blockbuster.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie – 15th January

Stuffed with imagination and silliness, this childlike superhero comedy is an absolute delight.

Boyhood – 15th January

Less like watching a film, and more like watching life itself.

Bridget Jones’s Diary – 15th January

A charming cast and witty script make this romantic comedy a winning tale of a woman turning the page and writing her own story.
