YouTube Red releases Katy Perry documentary that’s also about YouTube

YouTube Red is teaming up with Katy Perry for its latest original film. The movie, titled Will You Be My Witness?, is all about the pop superstar – or, perhaps more accurately, all about YouTube.
The streaming site’s subscription service, which has been running for quite a while now, initially relied upon its own talent to produce original series and content largely about them, from a documentary following Lilly Singh on a world tour to a reality show starring controversial gamer PewDiePie. Since then, it’s stepped up its investment in original content, with people such as Channing Tatum producing a new Step Up series. Its latest original film goes even bigger, with Katy Perry at the centre, but the focus still remains firmly on the video site itself.
The movie is about the singer’s YouTube Witness World Wide live-streaming event from this summer. The four-day event will be distilled into a feature-length special, including behind-the-scenes footage and highlights of what happened over those four days, ranging from interviews and dancing with Left Shark at the NFL halftime show to hosting roundtable debates about issues with guests such as Anna Kendrick and Caitlyn Jenner.
YouTube Red costs $10 per month, but is currently not available in the UK – British fans, however, can buy the film on YouTube, along with all the other YouTube Red originals.
