Will Arnett and Juliet Stevenson are among the star names heading to the Riviera this spring for Season 2 of Sky’s drama.
The series, which stars Julia Stiles, is set in the sun-drenched South of France, the opulent playground of the world’s filthy rich, where a woman whose partner dies in a suspicious explosion finds herself immersed in the morally ambiguous and audacious world of the Riviera’s dark side. The first season was Sky’s most successful original commission to date with an audience of 2.3m per episode, and over 20m downloads and views in total. Riviera 2 promises to give fans even more of what they love, with more glamour, more intrigue and more betrayal: all set against the gorgeous backdrop of the playground of the super rich.
Indeed, the Cote d’Azur is about to get even more stylish as a host of new faces join the cast. The second series of the Sky original production sees returning cast members Julia Stiles, Lena Olin, Roxane Duran and Dimitri Leonidas joined in the sun-soaked south of France by Will Arnett (Arrested Development), Juliet Stevenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply), Poppy Delevingne (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Jack Fox (Kids In Love) and Grégory Fitoussi (World War Z).
This series picks up in the aftermath of the shocking first series finale. However, things become more complicated with the introduction of the Elthams, an aristocratic English family with secrets of their own. Juliet Stevenson takes on the role of Lady Cassandra Eltham and is joined on the Riviera by her children, the impossibly stylish Daphne (Delevingne) and the brooding Nico (Fox).
Meanwhile, Georgina (Julia Stiles) is reunited with her charismatic uncle Jeff (Arnett) and we learn more about the troubled past she left behind in America. She also becomes entangled with the handsome and mysterious Noah (Fitoussi).
Filming commenced today on location in Nice with the show set to return to Sky Atlantic and NOW in 2019.
Julia Stiles says: “It’s thrilling to return to the Riviera and to welcome such incredible new talent to the show. Georgina’s past catches up to her in season two and the drama only intensifies. She is reunited with her mysterious yet charming uncle, someone who sees through her armor. Will is perfectly cast in that role and I am excited to explore how far Georgina will go to protect her new life.”
Sky’s Head of Drama, Anne Mensah adds: “Riviera is the ultimate in escapism, a cinematic journey into the extraordinary world of the rich and powerful seen through the eyes of our anti-heroine, Georgina.”
Riviera also welcomes back acclaimed Belgian director, Hans Herbots (Rellik) in the role of lead director.
Riviera renewed for Season 2
28th November 2017
Sky has renewed Riviera for a second season.
Following its phenomenal success earlier this year Sky’s best-performing original series to date, Riviera will return with Julia Stiles reprising the role of Georgina Clios for another high-octane series about the lives of the super-rich on the Côte d’Azur.
Group Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch’s pledged earlier this year to increase investment in original productions by 25 per cent, as Sky responds to demand from customers for more high-quality programming. In the last year, Sky originals such as Riviera and Tin Star have attracted record audiences, and now, Sky is cementing that commitment, taking the number of original series on Sky in 2018 to over 50, of which 24 are returning shows.
Managing Director, Content Gary Davey says: “There’s never been a more competitive time to be in the content business and I’m incredibly excited by the scale, quality and authenticity of the UK TV industry right now. Next year will see over 50 Sky Original Productions on air and over 20 of these will be returners – a testament to the popularity of our shows – and it doesn’t stop there, with our increased investment, the focus for 2018 remains getting even better on screen.”
Riviera 2 will see Julia Stiles reunited with cast members Lena Olin, Roxane Duran and Dimitri Leonidas for a second series of Sky Atlantic’s record-breaking drama. Viewers will be transported back to the stunning sun-soaked setting of the Côte D’Azur, to see what lies ahead for the Clios family after the explosively thrilling finale to Season 1.
Riviera is a Sky Original Production in association with Altice. Produced by Archery Pictures, Primo Productions and Sky, the Executive Producers are Kris Thykier, Paul McGuinness and Cameron Roach. International distribution is being handled by Sky Vision.
