HBO’s Mosaic premieres on UK TV this weekend

HBO’s Mosaic finally has a UK TV air date – and, for those tired of waiting for the show to land on British screens, the good news is that it premieres this weekend.
Steven Soderbergh’s innovative thriller follows the killing of famed children’s author Olivia Lake, played by Sharon Stone. The story starts at the end, in what emerges as a twisting tale of passion, intrigue and deception, as one woman’s rural idealism gets submerged by an avalanche of lies, corruption and murder.
Stone is joined by an impressive cast that includes Garrett Hedlund, Paul Reubens, Devin Ratray, Frederick Weller, Beau Bridges, Jennifer Ferrin, Michael Cerveris, James Ransone, Jeremy Bobb and Maya Kazan. The innovative part, meanwhile, comes from the way the series was designed: conceived as a puzzle that could be shuffled in any order, it was developed by Soderbergh and Casey Silver as an interactive storytelling experience. It premiered in the US as an app allow users to choose the perspective from which to follow events, a detailed approach that took three years to create, enabling multiple version of the story and possibly even different endings.
Now, HBO is presenting Soderbergh’s version, as a six-part series. The bad news is that, in the UK, the Mosaic app as originally conceived is not available – Sky holds the exclusive rights to HBO content on British soil, which means that HBO locked its app to American users only. There is no word of Sky releasing the interactive experience through its Sky VR app.
The good news is that the series is airing on Sky Atlantic from Saturday 17th February, with episodes arriving at 10pm weekly. Don’t have Sky? You can also tune in through NOW, which allows non-Sky customers to watch Sky Atlantic (Mosaic), FOX UK (The Walking Dead), Sky 1 (The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow) and more both live and on-demand, as part of a £7.99 monthly subscription – with a 7-day free trial available.
The really good news is that while we can’t pick and choose the Mosaic story we get, we can binge the whole thing in one go, with the entire six-episode box set available now, before its UK broadcast, on both Sky Box Sets and NOW.
