There’s an unwritten rule in showbiz that goes something like this: every time Neil Patrick Harris hosts an awards, we want to have his babies. The 2013 Emmys were no exception – and if you need proof, here are the highlights of NPH hosting the awards.

Opting not to do big dance number at the start, as we all hoped he would, Neil went the conventional route of a introductory speech. Then, halfway through, he surprised everyone by deciding to do this instead. Yes, it’s the infamous Number in the Middle of the Show:

After watching that, you can’t help but admire the choreographers behind the scenes. That’s where they normally remain, getting their award handed out the week before the big Emmys ceremony at the artistic celebration – along with cinematographers and other unsung heroes.

Not on Neil Patrick Harris’ watch. The deal? They could get their award on the primetime TV broadcast – as long as they did a dance number too. It’s a sweet gesture from a song and dance man. And one that gave us this:
