Succession, Schitt’s Creek and Watchmen lead Emmy 2020 winners

Succession, Schitt’s Creek and Watchmen led this year’s Primetime Emmy 2020 awards, sweeping up on Sunday night at the virtual ceremony.
After years of Game of Thrones and Veep being the biggest played in the room, the weekend saw a diverse array of stars collect their awards from their own living rooms, with Emmys delivered via hazmat suit to their doorstep.
HBO’s Succession, written by Jesse Armstrong, was the juggernaut of the evening, winning Outstanding Drama Series, as well as Outstanding Writing, Directing and Actor for Jeremy Strong.
HBO’s dominance continued with the timely comic book satire Watchmen taking home 11 of its 26 nominations across the Primetime and Creative Arts ceremonies. Its prizes on Sunday included Outstanding Actress for Regina King, Supporting Actor for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Outstanding Limited Series. Zendaya, meanwhile, made history by becoming the youngest ever winner of the Outstanding Lead Actress prize for HBO drama Euphoria.
In total, HBO bagged 30 awards from this year’s awards, outstripping Netflix, which entered the competition with a record 160 nominations. Its main win of the night was Supporting Actress for Julia Garner in Ozark. Streaming newcomer Apple TV+, though, still managed to make a mark, with Billy Crudup winning the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for The Morning Show.
But the night’s happiest winner was no doubt Schitt’s Creek, which bid farewell by sweeping the comedy category, taking home Outstanding Lead Actor for Eugene Levy, Outstanding Lead Actress for Catherine O’Hara, Supporting Actress for Annie Murphy and Supporting Actor for Dan Levy, not to mention the Outstanding Comedy Series prize.
