“Welcome, class of 88!” That’s the sound of Netflix’s Fear Street returning for another instalment, as the franchise invites us to enjoy one killer night.
The original horror trilogy arrived in 2021, with Fear Street: 1994, Fear Street: 1978 and Fear Street: 1666 landing on Netflix on consecutive weeks. They journeyed further and further back into the bloody history of Shadyside, until evil was vanquished – or so we thought.
All the Fear Street films are based on RL Stine’s popular series of novels, but Prom Queen is the first to be drawn from a specific book, 1992’s The Prom Queen. It takes us back to the dark heart of the aptly named town, as prom season at Shadyside High is under way and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of 88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.
“Think classic 80s slasher and all the fun that entails, but with compelling characters, needle drops, dancing and a whole lot more!” teases director and co-writer Matt Palmer.
The cast includes India Fowler (The Nevers, Insomnia), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket, The Idol), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls, Above the Shadows), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Cinnamon), Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Chris Klein (Sweet Magnolias, American Pie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range, Manhunt), Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From, Perry Mason) and Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie, Avengers: Infinity War).
You can see them in action on 2nd May, when the film premieres on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:
