Viola Davies and Yance Ford are teaming up for Two Butterflies.
Fresh from stealing the show in The Suicide Squad, the Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star is in talks to lead the drama for Amazon Studios. The project originated as a script by Evan Dodson, who was the youngest ever writer to make the Black List of unproduced screenplays back in 2016.
Two Butterflies follows two estranged sisters who reunite when one of them has to be transported to an Alzheimer’s facility. As well as starring as one of the sisters, Deadline reports that Davis will produce the film alongside Julius Tennon for JuVee Productions, as well as Rob Hardy (Power Book III: Raising Kanan) for Rainforest Entertainment.
At the helm will be Yance Ford, who is no stranger to streaming: Yance directed Strong Island, a Netflix original documentary that premiered at Sundance back in 2017 and was nominated for Best Documentary at the Oscars. (You can read our interview with Yance about that film here.)
