Vimeo unveils new wave of 2016 originals

Vimeo has unveiled its new slate of originals for 2016.
The line-up builds on a growing catalogue of original titles on the site, which has enjoyed less of the media spotlight than YouTube, thanks to its rival’s recent launch of SVOD service YouTube Red.
Vimeo, though, is not one to stand idly by: the new range of titles continue to diversify, with everything from a comedy special to the site’s very first original concert flick. It arrives hot on the heels of Darby Forever, an original short film from SNL’s Aidy Bryant, which landed last month, and the comedy special Rolodex of Hate from RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio, which arrived in December.
Here’s what’s on the way:
The Outs – 30th March
After building a home on Vimeo with Season 1, Vimeo has upped its status to a full-on original series, picking up events three years after the first season, finding our main characters a little older, a little more tired, and the tiniest bit closer to figuring out what they want.
Lonely and Horny – 8th April
The first series from CollegeHumor’s Jake and Amir since the end of their eight-year eponymous series is a “dark exploration of loneliness, horniness, and whether or not everyone actually deserves a little love”.
Garfunkel and Oates: Trying to Be Special – May
Duo Riki Lindhorne and Kate Micucci, also known as Garfunkel & Oates, have done it all: a TV show, a web series, four albums, numerous concert tours, music videos… the only they haven’t done? A comedy special. This one’s recorded live in Seattle, as Kate and Riki attempt to raise funds to make a comedy special.
Wizard Mode – TBC (Spring 2016)
Earning a Staff Pick in 2009 and nine more since, Salazar – the directing duo of Nathan Drillot and Jeff Lee Petry – are no stranger to Vimeo. This crowdfunded film therefore finds itself a natural home as a Vimeo original feature. The documentary profiles an international pinball whiz, as he ascends the circuit ranks and sheds the stereotypes of autism.
Toro y Moi: Live in Concert – June
Chaz Bundick, aka Toro y Moi, is a pioneering figure of “chillwave” music, which is enough to make him the one Vimeo has chosen to feature in their first original concert film, shot by six-time Staff Picked creator Harry Israelson.
