BBC iPlayer will welcome a new original series to its portfolio this weekend: Training Tunes.
The show, which premieres on Saturday 27th February, is produced by Somethin’ Else and will reveal the tunes that inspires famous athletes and sports personalities. Trevor Nelson will host the online chat show, with the first episode to feature Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill sharing musical influences from over her career, alongside providing an insight into her preparations for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games.
The announcement arrives as the BBC goes, in the words of The Drum, “all in” on digital media. Last week, BBC Three became the UK’s first online TV channel, while BBC iPlayer is increasingly becoming a home for exclusive and original content. Indeed, iPlayer has already debuted a similar chat show hosted by Frank Skinner, which sees celebrities talk about the things that they are currently watching on the Beeb’s catch-up service. Music and sport have also been a key part of both iPlayer and BBC Three’s output, from the online-only Match of the Day 3 to a new deal (unveiled this week) securing UFC rights for BBC Three.
