Don’t you just love it when you get an invite to a royal baking contest, only to find yourself face to face with your own doppelgänger? That’s the starting point for Netflix’s new festive film, The Princess Switch, which stars Vanessa Hudgens and… Vanessa Hudgens.
The High School Musical star plays Chicago baker Stacy, who is invited by the Royal Family of Belgravia to compete in an annual regal tournament. While there, she finds herself crossing paths with Margaret, the Duchess of Montenaro. With one week before Christmas, and with Margaret about to marry, they end up hatching a plan: swap places for the holiday season, so they each get taste of the other person’s life. With Stacy boasting a handsome co-worker and Margaret’s fiance a dashing prince, what could possibly go wrong?
The movie is written by newcomer Megan Metzger and Robin Bernheim, whose CV includes Star Trek: Voyager and Diagnosis Murder, and it’s directed by Mike Rohl, who is no stranger to festive flicks: he’s previously helmed the TV movies Miss Christmas and Love at First Bark, among others. The Princess Switch is one of a number of Netflix Christmas movies set for release this November, including The Holiday Calendar, starring Kat Graham, The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russell, and the sequel everyone’s been waiting for, A Christmas Prince 2: Royal Wedding.
