Red Dwarf journeys to The Promised Land this April in a new feature-length special.
The 90-minute outing is the 13th instalment of the long-running sci-fi comedy, with Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) returning to the ship – and Norman Lovett joining them to reprise his role of Holly, the ship’s computer.
Three million years ago, David Lister, a vending machine repairman, was sentenced to 18 months in suspended animation for smuggling his pregnant cat aboard the mining ship Red Dwarf. While Lister remained in stasis, a radiation leak killed the rest of the crew. Safely sealed in the hold, the cats evolved into humanoid form. The cats now roam deep space in a fleet of their own…
The Promised Land sees the posse meet three cat clerics (Tom Bennett, Mandeep Dhillon, Lucy Pearman) who worship Lister as their God. Lister vows to help them as they’re being hunted by Rodon, the ruthless feral cat leader (Ray Fearon) who has vowed to wipe out all cats who worship anyone but him.
Written and directed by Doug Naylor, the special was recorded in front of a studio audience over two nights at Pinewood Studios. It will air on Dave at 9pm on 9th April, with brand new Smeg-Ups and bonus material exclusively available to stream on UKTV Play after its broadcast. A series of three retrospectives will also air on Dave later in the year.
