Coronavirus Theatre Club streams new work on Sunday nights

Sunday night out at the theatre? It’s not a prospect anyone can look forward to for at least several weeks, but fortunately, the magic of streaming video means that people can get their play, musical or opera fix on-demand. (You can see our guide to digital theatre here.)
While most of those in the digital theatre arena are theatres or streaming platforms with recorded productions from established venues, one new initiative has sprung up online that will stream new work every Sunday night into your living room: the Coronavirus Theatre Club.
Brian Lonsdale, Sam Neale and Michael Blair – three actors from north-east London – is offering a platform to up-and-coming writers, directors and actors, calling people together to share their monologues and other scripted works. Those involved were given seven days to rehearse their work and be off book in time for the stream, and the first seven to do so will be taking to the web at 7pm today.
For this show, actors were paired with monologues, but auditions are being held for each role ahead of future streams, with directors then picking their actor for each piece. Tonight’s monologues will be from different actors and will be streamed, one at a time, through the Twitter account @ClubCoronavirus from 7pm. (Warning: There will be adult humour and bad language from the start.)
