Fortnite hosts Christopher Nolan movie night

Friday night is movie night on Fortnite, as the video game prepares to stream a trio of Christopher Nolan classics this weekend.
The battle royal game has been a veritable phenomenon in recent years, as 350 million players sign in and face off with others from around the world in a Hunger Games-like scenario. Last month, the game took the surprising step of bringing people together within its world to foster a sense of community – by encouraging film fans to enter a virtual cinema and live-stream the premiere of a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
With no actual cinemas available for a big screen premiere, the unusual step attempted to recreate that sense of a theatrical event. Fortnite and Warner Bros were obviously pleased with the result, because now, Fornite is testing a new “Movie Nite” feature with a free live-stream of classic Nolan films – ideally timed to fill the void left by Tenet’s cinema release being pushed back to 31st July, or for Nolan fans not comfortable returning to cinemas given the current state of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We believe the idea of getting together with your friends and family at Party Royale to watch a movie is powerful and exciting, and we’re looking at ways to increase global participation in the future,” said Fornite.
Three different Nolan films are being streamed – Inception, Batman Begins or The Prestige. In the UK, due to rights reasons, The Prestige will be screening within Fortnite. It will begin at 5pm UK TV. Subtitles will be supported.
