“Ladies and gentlemen, we just made it into international waters…” That’s the sound of Netflix’s Money Heist returning for a third season, after breaking out to become a global hit.
The Spanish thriller, one of Netflix’s most-watched non-English-language series, follows the plan of a mysterious man, known as The Professor (Álvaro Morte), to carry out the biggest money heist in history. Not by stealing money, but by making it. The mission was simple: break into the Royal Mint of Spain and print 2.4 billion euros, as eight thieves took 67 hostages to ensure 11 days of privacy and enough time to make their fortune.
Originally airing on Antena 3, before Netflix snapped up the international rights, the streaming giant has since ordered a third part as a Netflix exclusive. In a further vote of confidence, Netflix has also signed an overall deal with Alex Pina, the show’s creator.
Now, we’ve finally got a proper look of the show’s return, with the first trailer for Season 3. This time, it’s not about money. This time, it’s about family.
All episodes land on Netflix on Friday 19th July. Here’s the video:

Pina, who is the founder of production company Vancouver Media, has helped to shake up Spanish TV dramatically in recent years; he’s also the creative powerhouse behind the groundbreaking prison thriller Locked Up (read our review here), as well as upcoming Netflix series The Ship.
While production is slated to begin next year on Sky Rojo, Pina’s female-action drama for Netflix, Money Heist is now already back in session. And, in a sign of how much stock the streaming giant has placed in the project, Netflix has now released a video of the cast reuniting for the start of production – the kind of promotional behind-the-scenes tease usually reserved for the likes of Stranger Things.
Money Heist Season 3 is lined up for a 2019 release.
Netflix orders Money Heist Part 3
18th April 2018
Money Heist will return for a Part 3, Netflix has announced.
The Spanish series, known as La Casa de Papel in its home country, follows the plan of a mysterious man, known as The Professor (Álvaro Morte), to carry out the biggest money heist in history. Not by stealing money, but by making it. The mission is simple: break into the Royal Mint of Spain and print 2.4 billion euros, as eight thieves take 67 hostages to ensure 11 days of privacy and enough time to make their fortune.
Originally airing on Antena 3, before Netflix snapped up the international rights, the show has become a smash hit, with Netflix revealing in a letter to shareholders that is now the most-watched non-English-language series on the service.
After the global success of Part 1 and 2 of the Spanish heist sensation, Netflix has announced at an event in Rome that it will return for a third part exclusively on Netflix.
“The Professor will develop new heists that will be unveiled in 2019,” Netflix confirmed.
““Our belief is that great storytelling transcends borders. When stories from different countries, languages and cultures find a worldwide platform where the only limitation is the creator’s imagination, then unique, yet universal, stories emerge that are embraced by a global audience,” says Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix.
The third season is one of 10 new European projects announced today, including seven original series – the first Dutch original series (Netherlands), Mortel (France), The Wave (Germany), Luna Nera (Italy), La Casa de Papel Part 3 (Spain), The English Game (UK), Turn Up Charlie (UK) – two documentaries (a French docu-series and The Staircase (French production shot in the US), plus its first Italian original movie, Rimetti a Noi i Nostri Debiti.
Sarandos added: “With over 100 European projects launching this year, we are committed to being a voice for European entertainment, giving passionate local content creators a worldwide platform to share their vision, and offering consumers around the world unique and diverse stories they can discover and enjoy, anywhere, anytime and at the same time, no matter their place or language of origin. And this is just the beginning of our journey.”
Trailer: Money Heist returns to Netflix for Part 2
5th April 2018
Money Heist returns to Netflix this week for Part 2, and a trailer gives us a taste of the gripping conclusion in store.
Created by Alex Pina, the Spanish series is a thriller that sees a mysterious man, known as The Professor, hatch an ambitious plan: carry out the biggest money heist in history. Not by stealing money, but by making it. The mission is simple: break into the Royal Mint of Spain and print 2.4 billion euros, as eight thieves take 67 hostages to ensure 11 days of privacy and enough time to make their fortune.
Called La Casa de Papel (The House of Money, or Paper), the Spanish series first aired on Antena 3 back in 2017. Then, Netflix snapped up the rights to the series and released the first half, edited from nine episodes into 13 parts for an international audience. It follows a growing number of Spanish TV series making waves on British screens, from Netflix’s own Las Chicas del Cable (Cable Girls) to Walter Presents’ prison drama Locked Up.
Now, Part 2 of Money Heist, which aired in Spain last October, is finally hitting Netflix in the UK. As we return for the concluding episodes, the heist is in jeopardy: hostages and thieves are growing increasingly tired and nervous, forensic scientists are tracking the house where the job was planned, and the police are closer to finding out the identity of The Professor. Will they be able to fulfil their plan?
All episodes of Money Heist will be available on Netflix UK from Friday 6th April. Here’s the new video:
Money Heist is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
