Sky renews Breeders for Season 3
David Farnor | On 20, May 2020
Sky has renewed Breeders for a third season.
The honest and uncompromising comedy about the challenges of parenthood, stars Martin Freeman (Fargo, Sherlock, Black Panther) and Daisy Haggard (Back to Life, Episodes, Black Mirror) as Paul and Ally Worsley, a couple navigating the multitude of life challenges thrown at them by their children Luke and Ava, as well as their parents; Jackie (Joanna Bacon), Jim (Alun Armstrong) and Leah (Stella Gonet).
Breeders is produced by Avalon (Starstruck, The Russell Howard Hour, Spitting Image, Taskmaster) and FX Productions for FX Networks and Sky Originals. It is created by Simon Blackwell (Veep, Peep Show, The Personal History of David Copperfield, Back), Chris Addison (Veep, The Thick of It, The Hustle) and Freeman, with Blackwell serving as showrunner.
Freeman commented: “I’m very happy to get to do another series of the show. We’re delighted that Sky is with us in spending time with the Worsleys, and hopefully let the audience see that, once again, no, they’re not alone”
Blackwell added: “Delighted that we’ve got three seasons. One more and it’s a pizza. This is such a superb team to work with, and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to make the show. I can’t wait to see what terrible and brilliant but let’s face it mainly terrible things will happen to the Worsley family in the next 10 episodes.”
The renewal coincides with the launch of the second season, with all 10 episodes available now on-demand. The programme forms part of a run of original comedies launching on Sky One with audiences of more than 1 million – including Bloods (Samson Kayo, Jane Horrocks), Brassic (Joe Gilgun, Michelle Keegan), Intelligence (Nick Mohammed and David Schwimmer), Hitmen (Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins) and Code 404 (Daniel Mays, Stephen Graham and Anna Maxwell Martin).

Breeders returns for Season 2
19th May 2020
Breeders will return to Sky One for Season 2.
The honest and uncompromising comedy about the challenges of parenthood stars Martin Freeman (Fargo, Sherlock, Black Panther) and Daisy Haggard (Back To Life, Episodes, Black Mirror) as Paul and Ally, who are juggling full-time careers, ageing parents, a mortgage, upheavals in their relationship and the unenviable curveballs of parenting their young children, Luke (George Wakeman) and Ava (Jayda Eyles). When Ally’s estranged father Michael (Michael McKean) appears on their doorstep, the family essentially takes on a third child, but this one comes with baggage and opinions. Paul’s own parents, Jackie (Joanna Bacon) and Jim (Alun Armstrong), are on hand to help out, but their generation does parenting a little differently…
“Martin Freeman plays impressively against type in this darkly funny exploration of parenting and toxic masculinity,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
Simon Blackwell serves as showrunner and created the series with Chris Addison and Freeman. It is produced by Avalon and FX Productions for Sky and FX Networks. Now, Sky One has confirmed that the pair have renewed the show for a second season.
Jon Mountague, Director of Comedy, Sky Studios, said: “With scripts of this calibre, hilarity and honesty, and a cast lead by the uniquely relatable Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard, it’s no surprise Breeders struck such a huge chord with viewers. Hats off to Simon Blackwell, Chris Addison and the team – we can’t wait to give birth to a second series.”
Martin Freeman added: “So pleased we get another go at Breeders. I reckon the next one will be even better. It’s such a pleasure working with this team… we’ll see you all soon. Well, not soon. But at some point, honest.”
It marks the latest in a run of original comedies launching on Sky One with audiences of more than one million – including Avenue 5 (starring Hugh Laurie), Intelligence (with Nick Mohammed and David Schwimmer), Hitmen (Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins) and Code 404 (Daniel Mays, Stephen Graham and Anna Maxwell Martin).
Trailer: Martin Freeman comedy Breeders heads to Sky this March
14th February 2020
Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard star in new Sky original comedy Breeders, and a new trailer gives us a glimpse of them in action.
A co-production between Sky and FX, it explores the paradox that every parent knows but never admits; you would willingly die for your children, but quite often you also want to kill them. Freeman stars as Paul, a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was. His partner in this impossibly steep parental climb is Ally (Haggard), who runs a recording studio, makes Paul laugh and can read a story to their children while she’s technically asleep.
In this honest and uncompromising comedy Paul and Ally are juggling full-time careers, aging parents, a mortgage, upheavals in their relationship and the unenviable curveballs of parenting their young children.
The series premieres on Sky One on 12th March. Here’s the trailer:
