Marco Polo is joining the elite group of Netflix original shows to get its own Christmas special.

The historical epic, which follows the adventures of the legendary explorer, didn’t win many fans when it premiered last Christmas, thanks to its clunky dialogue and cheesy plotlines. But the bloody, violent series evidently had its fans, because Netflix has ordered a festive follow-up to the first season – not to mention ordered a second season, which will continue Marco’s navigation of Kublai Khan’’s world of greed, betrayal, sex and rivalry.

The one-off episode, called Marco Polo: Hundred Eyes, will tell the blind warrior’s side of the story, explaining how Marco’s mentor monk came to pledge his service to Kublai Khan.

The seasonal special will be released on Boxing Day 2015.
