Netflix will release Love and Monsters in the UK and Ireland this April.
The Paramount-produced sci-fi, previously titled Monster Problems, stars The Maze Runner’s Dylan O’Brien and is written by Brian Duffield (Insurgent) and Matthew Robinson (Dora and the Lost City of Gold).
Directed by Michael Matthews (Five Fingers for Marseilles), it’s set seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, when all of humanity has been forced to live in underground colonies. After Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien) reconnects over the radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee, who has been living on the coast 80 miles away, he begins to fall for her again. Joel realises that there’s nothing left for him underground, and – despite all the danger that stands in his way – he decides he must venture out to find his true love.
The film was originally slated for a US cinema release in February, but Paramount instead opted for a Premium VOD release last October with a limited theatrical run. In December, O’Brien tweeted Netflix calling for it to release the film online – the next day, Netflix tweeted back confirming that the streamer had picked up the international rights to the movie.
Now, fresh from picking up an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects, Netflix has confirmed that Love and Monsters is coming to the streaming service everywhere outside the USA on 14th April.
