“What if we could eliminate from the stage except for the stuff we care about the most?” That’s David Byrne taking to the stage for American Utopia, his Broadway show that’s been captured on film by Spike Lee for the world to see.
The film, recorded during its run at the Hudson Theatre in New York, sees Byrne joined by an ensemble of 11 musicians, singers and dancers from around the globe, inviting audiences into a place where human connection, self-evolution, and social justice are paramount.
Imagine if you could be front row, onstage even, for one of the most electrifying performances of David Byrne’s career? That’s what’s on offer this December, as David Byrne’s American Utopia gets a digital release in the UK. The film, which streamed at the London Film Festival in October alongside a cinema screening, will be released on digital download on 14th December, with a DVD release scheduled for 11th January.
“An entertaining, uplifting, humanist celebration, which finds room for science, philosophy, James Baldwin, Kurt Schwitters and compassion” is how we described the concert movie in our review.
