Amazon is asking What the Constitution Means to Me this weekend, with the online release of the Broadway play.
Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into the US Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. It follows 15-year-old Heidi, who earned her college tuition by winning constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.
Schreck’s timely play, directed by Oliver Butler, became a sensation off-Broadway before transferring to Broadway where it received two Tony Award nominations among countless other accolades. Now, with the coronavirus pandemic leaving its tour across the US postponed, Amazon Prime Video has released a recording of the Broadway production, directed by Can You Ever Forgive Me? director Marielle Heller. Here’s the trailer:
What the Constitution Means to Me is available to watch online on Amazon Prime Video as part of a Prime membership or a £5.99 monthly subscription.
