Tom Hiddleston will star in White Stork, a new political thriller for Netflix.
The Marvel star, who is known for playing Thor’s brother Loki, has jumped from the big screen to the small screen before, with an acclaimed leading role in BBC One and AMC’s The Night Manager back in 2016. He’s also currently reprising role as the god of mischief in a Marvel series for Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.
Now, he’s headed to Disney rival Netflix, reports Variety. He’ll play James Cooper, a politician with professional ambitions that are thwarted when he the subject of a vetting process by a woman called Asher Millan. The series, which began at AMC and has been in development for several years, is created by Jericho writer Chris Dunlop and directed by Taboo and The Enfield Haunting veteran Kristoffer Nyholm.
The 10-part political thriller is produced by Eleven, the British production company behind Netflix’s Sex Education. The move from AMC to Netflix comes as the streaming giant is looking to compete with British broadcasters, which have recently teamed up to launch their own subscription streaming platform, BritBox. Sex Education is a major part of that strategy, building on the acclaim and popularity of royal drama The Crown.
