Theo James will lead the cast of Netflix’s The Gentlemen.
The TV series, inspired by the Guy Ritch film of the same name, will take us back into the world of upper-class weed farms, no doubt continuing the movie’s blend of crime and dark comedy.
James, who is best known for the Divergent film series, was most recently seen in sci-fi thriller Archive, Sky’s The Time Traveler’s Wife, Season 2 of The White Lotus and ITV’s Sanditon.
Now, he’s set to take the star role in the eight-part series, playing Eddie Horniman, the estranged son of an aristocrat who inherits the family estate only to realise that it’s sitting on top of the biggest weed farm in Europe. Joining him will be Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Peter Serafinowicz and Giancarlo Esposito and Ritchie veteran Vinnie Jones.
The show is set in the same universe as the original film, but won’t feature any returning characters. Ritchie, however, will be back to direct the first two episodes and serves as creator on the project, exec-producer and co-writer with Matthew Read.
“The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me,” Ritchie said. “I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax and Moonage, we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again. We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories, and I’m excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.”
Filming begins this month.
