New ITV drama The Trials of Jimmy Rose has premiered online ahead of its broadcast this weekend.
The programme, which stars Ray Winstone, follows career criminal Jimmy Rose, who has spent the last 12 years in prison for armed robbery. Now 61, Jimmy is back out from behind bars, but his wife, Jackie (Amanda Redman), doesn’t know if she loves him anymore. His son, meanwhile, thinks he’s a waste of space and his daughter has troubles of her own.
And so Jimmy has to try and go straight, not just in terms of money – he’s got a zero-hour contract at a DIY store – but in terms of family, as he tries to win back his wife, connect with his grandkid and save his daughter.
The drama is broadcast on ITV at 9pm on Sunday 30th August, but you can watch the first episode already on ITV Player. The early online premiere continues a trend among broadcasters to develop their catch-up services into VOD platforms in their own right. Earlier this year, for example, the BBC premiered the whole of Peter Kay sitcom Car Share on iPlayer ahead of its linear TV outing. Episode 1 of The Trials of Jimmy Rose is available until 27th September.
