Good news for anyone who’s a 100% faithful fan: The Traitors will officially return for a second season.
In news that will surprise no one following the smash-hit first season, the reality competition has finally been given the formal green light.
The series sees a group of 22 strangers play the ultimate murder mystery game of deception and suspicion. Based at an ancient castle in Scotland, they work together to complete challenges and build up a prize fund of £120,000 – but hidden amongst the Faithful contestants are the Traitors, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithful and claim the prize for themselves, all the while remaining undetected. Under the cover of darkness, the Traitors murder the Faithful one by one, while the players must try to uncover the Traitors and banish them from the game. If the Faithful contestants banish all the Traitors, they share the prize fund but if a Traitor makes it to the end, they steal all the money.
We described the first season as “compulsively entertaining” in our review, and many people agreed, with the show racking up 34 million views on BBC iPlayer to date, making it the biggest brand new entertainment launch for the BBC in two years.
Host Claudia Winkleman says: “I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.”
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, adds: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense. We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and Faithfuls.”
