The Survivalist is available to watch online in the UK from today – at the same time as it hits cinemas across the country.
The film, which marks the debut of director Stephen Fingleton, follows a man who lives off the grid in a starvation-stricken world. When a starving woman and her teenage daughter discover his forest refuge, his loneliness drives him to overcome his suspicion and strike a bargain with them in return for bed and board. But as desire becomes stronger than necessity, the exchange becomes an uneasy, ongoing arrangement which threatens not only his carefully constructed world but also his life.
“This low-budget, post-apocalyptic thriller marks an extremely impressive debut for writer-director Stephen Fingleton, who expanded the film from his own 16-minute short, Magpie,” we wrote in our review. “Characterised by Fingleton’s strikingly economical story-telling, it’s a compelling and suspenseful three-hander that exerts a powerful grip.”
The film has earned its director a deserved BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut. With a wide digital release alongside its theatrical distribution, this weekend is the perfect time to catch up with the nominee before the awards ceremony on Sunday 14th February. The movie is available to rent on a range of video on-demand platforms – and, on We Are Colony, comes with a host of exclusive special features, such as stills and interviews with the filmmakers.
