First look: The Sinner Season 2
2nd June 2018
The Sinner, one of last year’s breakout TV hits when it landed on Netflix UK, returns later this year for a second season – and now we have our first teaser for what’s in store.
The show is exec-produced by Jessica Biel, who also starred alongside Bill Pullman in Season 1. That followed a young mother (Biel) who inexplicably stabbed a stranger to death, leading Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) to unlock the mystery buried in her missing memories. Season 1 garnered 2 Golden Globe nominations (for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Jessica Biel), and received glowing praise from audiences and critics alike.
It was renewed for Season 2 earlier this year, with Biel not returning, but Pullman confirmed as reprising his role as Detective Ambrose. It will see him go back to his hometown in rural New York to assess an unsettling and heart-wrenching crime – parents murdered by their 11-year-old son, with no apparent motive. As Ambrose realises there’s nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, the investigation pulls him into the hidden darkness of his hometown. He’s pitted against those who’ll stop at nothing to protect its secrets, and a mysterious woman who proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle.
Elisha Henig will play the boy, with Carrie Coon also joining the cast as the mysterious Vera. Antonio Campos, who directed the first three episodes of Season 1, will return to direct and executive produce the first two episodes.
Now, USA Network has unveiled a whole host of new pictures giving us our first look at the cast in action, as well as Campos on set. The network also announced that Season 2 will premiere in the USA on Wednesday 1st August, which means that a similar UK release date (of around November) is likely. There’s also a creepy new teaser trailer too, which you can see below. Not seen The Sinner? Read why you should catch up with Season 1 on Netflix UK.

The Sinner will return for Season 2.
The psychological thriller, which stars Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman, premiered on USA Network last summer, before Netflix secured the exclusive UK rights and released it in November.
It followed a young mother who inexplicably stabbed a stranger to death, leading Pullman’s Detective Harry Ambrose to unlock the mystery buried in her missing memories. Season 1 garnered 2 Golden Globe nominations (for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Jessica Biel), and received glowing praise from audiences and critics alike.
“Ideal for Stranger Things fans looking for their next unsettling box set,” we described it in our review.
Now, USA Network has announced that it has ordered a second outing for Detective Ambrose. The eight-episode series, produced by Universal Cable Productions, will once again feature Derek Simonds as executive producer and showrunner, and Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple as executive producers through their company Iron Ocean. Antonio Campos, who directed the first three episodes of Season 1, will return to direct and executive produce the first two episodes.

Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, announced the news, describing The Sinner as a “huge success”.
“Jessica, Derek, and team created a mesmeric and compelling world in the first installment of The Sinner,” added Dawn Olmstead and George Cheeks, Co-Presidents, Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios. “We are very proud of the series they have developed and it is with great excitement that we, along with our partners at USA Network, announce a new chapter in Detective Ambrose’s story, played once again by the incomparable Bill Pullman, as he embarks on a gripping new mystery.”
The series joins Shooter, USA Network’s other TV series that has an exclusive home on Netflix in the UK. It has also been renewed for a third season.
