The Horror of Dolores Roach: Amazon to adapt podcast into TV series

Amazon is developing another podcast into a TV series, with The Horror of Dolores Roach in works for Prime Video.
Amazon has already tapped a number of podcasts for original series, including the horror podcast Lore and sci-fi mystery thriller Homecoming. Now, it’s set up a virtual writers’ room to bring Gimlet podcast The Horror of Dolores Roach to the screen.
The series hails from Blumhouse TV, which won the rights to adapt the podcast last year. Based on Aaron Mark’s one-woman play Empanada Loca, tells the Sweeney Todd-inspired tale about a woman who returns to New York after 16 years in prison. With her boyfriend missing and her family gone, she is recognised only by an old stoner friend, who gives Dolores room and board and lets her give massages for cash in the basement apartment under his shop – leading to a string of strangled massage clients.
Dara Resnik, co-creator of Apple TV+ series Home Before Dark, is on board as showrunner and will work alongside Mark, who has signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse and is adapting the series from his own script.
Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold of Blumhouse Television and Chris Giliberti and Justin McGoldrick of Gimlet Pictures will executive produce the show.
