Update: The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 will debut on Channel 4 at 9pm on Sunday 20th June
“I’m looking for June Osborne.” “You’re better off without her.” That’s the sound of The Handmaid’s Tale returning to our screens for Season 4.
Hulu’s TV series, based on Margaret Atwood’s seminal novel of the same name, is set in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarised ‘return to traditional values’. As one of the few remaining fertile women, June, aka Offred (Elisabeth Moss), is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a desperate attempt to repopulate the world.
Season 4 will follow June’s fight for freedom against Gilead, but the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships.
As well as Moss, Season 4 will also see the return of Joseph Fiennes (American Horror Story) as Commander Fred Waterford, Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter) as his wife Serena Joy, Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) as Emily Malek, Madeline Brewer (Black Mirror) as Janine Lindo, Amanda Brugel (Snowpiercer) as Rita, Ann Dowd (Hereditary) as Aunt Lydia, O-T Fagbenle (Maxxx) as Luke Bankole, Max Minghella (The Mindy Project) as Nick Blaine, Samira Wiley (Orange Is the New Black) as Moira Strand and Bradley Whitford (Get Out) as Joseph Lawrence and Sam Jaeger (Take Me Home) as Mark Tuello.
In the US, Season 4 will premiere on Hulu on 28th April. It will premiere on UK on Channel 4, starting at 9pm on Sunday 20th June, with episodes then arriving weekly. Until then, here’s the trailer:

Season 3 followed June’s resistance against Gilead and her struggle to strike back versus overwhelming odds.
