Star Trek: Discovery renewed for Season 5

Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a fifth season.
Initially set 10 years before the original show, the series follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. That’s Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), who has a personal connection to Spock of the original Trek canon.
The show was one of the flagship titles for CBS All-Access when it launched several years ago, before the streaming service went on to be retitled Paramount+. In the UK and in many other countries, Netflix picked up the rights, becoming the exclusive home of Star Trek: Discovery. Last year, however, fans were surprised when a last-minute deal took all seasons of Star Trek: Discovery away from Netflix just before Season 4 premiered Stateside. The plan was to use it as a flagship launch title for Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland – instead, it has been streaming on Pluto TV weekly.
That move gives an indicator of Discovery’s value to Paramount’s owner ViacomCBS. Discovery is the cornerstone of a growing universe of Star Trek shows, including Picard, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and Prodigy. Now, Discovery has been renewed for a fifth season. In the UK and Ireland, it will stream exclusively on Paramount+, which will launch as an iOS and Android app this year, and will also be available through Sky Q, as an add-on to a Sky TV package. “Four years ago, we made a promise to grow Star Trek into something it had never been before, and thanks to the incredibly hard work done by our many talented showrunners, writers, and directors, along with the extraordinary support of CBS Studios and Paramount+, we’re keeping our word,” said Alex Kurtzman, architect and executive producer, Star Trek franchise. “Now our current shows are set up for the future as we work to build Trek’s next phase of programming for years to come.”
Season 4 will return on Friday 11th February, with episodes again arriving weekly.
