Glow Up returns to BBC Three tonight for Season 3, with a new host in the form of presenter Maya Jama. The third run of the make-up competition will see a new cast of budding Make-Up Artists (MUAs) and guest judges, including Rankin, Abby Roberts and Lisa Eldridge.
Maya Jama joins resident judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner, as they welcome a glittering array of guest judges and experts from across the worlds of beauty, TV, music and fashion. They include: Ateh Jewel, award-winning beauty journalist and trail-blazing diversity campaigner; Sherri Laurence, Emmy award-winner and make-up department head on Pose; Les Child, choreographer and voguing pioneer; Cate Hall, lead hair and make-up designer on The Crown; Abby Roberts, TikTok’s biggest make-up star; Vanessa Spence, ASOS design director; Loz Schiavo, Bafta-winning make-up designer on Peaky Blinders; Rankin, globally-renowned photographer and director; Jonas Blue, DJ and music producer; Awa, singer; and Lisa Eldridge, one of the world’s leading make-up artists.
The new ten MUAs will be hoping to impress them and be tipped as Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, winning a contract to work alongside some of the world’s biggest artists.
Dolli, Sophie, Alex, Xavi, Elliot, Ryley, Samah, Nicole, Jack and Craig make up the brand new cast of Glow Up’s aspiring MUAs, in a year when more applications than ever were received to join the competition.
Season 3 will see the battle of the brushes take place across multiple real-world assignments and challenges, as the MUAs get to work on everything from studio shoots and campaigns with Superdrug and Asos, through to period make-up and prosthetics on set with Pose, The Crown and Peaky Blinders. Internationally recognised photographer Rankin invites the MUAs to work on a look for a music video with Jonas Blue and Awa, while global TikTok superstar Abby Roberts teaches them what works on social media. Finally, Lisa Eldridge, one of the world’s most experienced and respected make-up artists, completes the line-up for the final challenge: a masterclass in make-up.
The eight-part series begins on Tuesday 20th April, with episodes arriving weekly at 7pm.

BBC Three’s Glow Up renewed for Season 2
9th July 2019
Following its success earlier this year, BBC Three has ordered a second season of Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star – with Stacey Dooley returning to host the competition alongside industry icons and series judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner.
Casting now, the second season will give aspiring make-up artists the chance to brush up on their skills and impress some of the biggest names in the business through a range of real-world professional assignments and themed creative tasks, which last year included working on looks for the cast of Kinky Boots and supermodel Leomie Anderson. Contestants were taken into the worlds of film special effects, fashion magazines, the catwalk, drag and social media, among others, where they had the chance to showcase their talents to Val, Dominic and guest judges such as online make-up sensation NikkieTutorials, drag queen Kim Chi and world-renowned photographer Rankin.
The first season, in which Ellis Hill was crowned the winner, was incredibly popular and saw fans take to social media to recreate their favourite looks each week. Since winning Ellis has gained experience with some of the world’s top make-up artists, including joining Val Garland’s team at Cannes Film Festival to assist with the red carpet looks for A-list celebs.
Stacey Dooley says: “We had so much fun filming the last series of Glow Up, so to be back for another with the legends Val and Dominic is a dream come true. I was blown away by the talent and creativity last time and it was a pleasure to be part of the journey. I can’t wait to get to know the new MUAs!”
Garland says: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be back for the second series. I’m looking forward to all the creativity and drama, and of course I can’t wait to work with Stacey and Dom again! I’ll be looking for skills, imagination and professionalism in the MUAs, as well as how they work in a team and how they react and resolve when things go wrong. Glow Up is a life changing experience and I wish each and every one of the hopefuls the very best of luck.”
Fiona Campbell, Controller of BBC Three, adds: “The first season of Glow Up was a real hit with our audience and brought something fresh and new to BBC Three. It was filled with creativity and had a spirit of fun and self expression. Developing formats that can return is part of our DNA and it was a no brainer to bring this back for more.”

Stacey Dooley to host BBC Three’s Glow Up
11th June 2019
Stacey Dooley has been announced as the host of Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, the brand new make-up competition coming to BBC Three this year.
Joining Stacey throughout the series will be industry veterans Val Garland, Global Make-Up Director for L’Oreal Paris, and Dominic Skinner, Global Senior Artist for MAC, who will judge the competition. Between them, Val and Dominic have worked with some of the biggest style icons, most high-profile fashion houses and respected beauty and lifestyle magazines. With Val’s portfolio featuring the likes of Kate Moss, Kendall Jenner, Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen and Vogue, and Dominic’s diverse background in beauty and bodypainting across music, TV, film, theatre, ballet, photography, runway and red carpet, their catalogue of experience guarantees to make a formidable judging duo.
Announced last year, the elimination series will see 10 contestants live and work together as they compete to win a contract assisting some of the world’s biggest make-up artists. With different creative briefs each week, they will need to bring lashings of passion, originality and skill to impress Val, Dominic and expert guest judges from worlds such as fashion and film.
Val says: “I’m looking for someone who works well under pressure, could read the brief behind the brief, even if there is no brief!“
Skinner adds: “Be it subtle and enhancing or bold and expressive, make-up has the power to make you feel like the you you’ve always known you were. I want to find a make-up artist who is willing to take risks and to push themselves creatively, someone who is more inspired and hungry at the end of this process than they were at the beginning!”
The eight-part series is a Wall to Wall production. The Executive Producer is Melissa Brown. It was commissioned by Damian Kavanagh, Controller BBC Three and Clare Sillery, Head of Commissioning, Documentaries. The Commissioning Editor is Emily Smith.
Stacey, who has been the face of some of BBC Three’s hardest hitting documentaries, comments: “I’m delighted to be involved with Glow Up. The make-up artists are so impressive and talented…and Val and Dominic were a scream to work with. Can’t wait to show you all it!”
