Soho Theatre and NextUp team up for stand-up specials

Soho Theatre and streaming platform NextUp have teamed up to record four new stand-up shows.
The partnership is the first of its kind in the UK between a major comedy venue and an online service. Launching in 2016, NextUp is a subscription service dedicated to stand-up comedy, showcasing rising talent from the UK and abroad as well as filming a growing number of specials at festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe. Soho Theatre launched its own streaming platform in 2018 to bring select shows to audiences across the UK.
The new specials are from critically acclaimed artists Jen Brister, Shappi Khorsandi, Lazy Susan and Aditi Mittal. Recorded at Soho Theatre, they are available to rent for 48 hours at SohoTheatreOnDemand.com, or streamed on NextUp, as part of a £4.99 monthly subscription.
Steve Lock, Soho Theatre’s Head of Comedy says: “We’re delighted to bring four of the best comedy shows that played at Soho Theatre over the last year to a wider audience. Together with NextUp, we’re proud to have captured these outstanding performances for comedy fans to enjoy beyond Soho.”
Dan Berg, CEO of NextUp, adds: “Soho Theatre is an incredible place for comedy that goes beyond the physical venue. We are so excited to be partnering with them to bring such a great selection of shows to our NextUp members. We’re really looking forward to releasing these specials, and showcasing them to comedy fans worldwide.”

Adidi Mittal: Mother of Invention
Motherhood: the most celebrated and exploited condition of human existence. Joining an illustrious line of shows by straight white men about their daddy issues, this is a show by a straight brown woman about her mummy issues. The star of Netflix’s Comedians of the World and her own hour-long special, Aditi returns to Soho following her critically acclaimed 2017 debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Jen Brister: Meaningless
Sketch duo and Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominees Lazy Susan – aka Celeste Dring and Freya Parker – perform their smash hit Forgive Me, Mother!, for the final time. The show was a huge critical success in Edinburgh 2018, garnering five star reviews and enjoying sold out performances at Soho Theatre, Leicester Square Theatre and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Lazy Susan: Forgive me, Mother!
Ever wanted to know the meaning of lie? No, neither has Jen. She’s too busy trying to stop her twins from using her shoes as a toilet. Still, we’re only on this planet for a finite time, wouldn’t it be good to find a bit of meaning in your otherwise pointless existence? Join Jen as she clutches at all the straws trying to make sense of it all.
Shappi Korshandi: Skittish Warrior… Confessions of a Club Comic
Shappi is back at Soho Theatre with her 2019 show, Skittish Warrior… Confessions of a Club Comic – a warts-and-all journey of the 90s comedy scene to breaking through on telly then letting it all slip away. A brand-new hour of sharp-tongued gags, cultural observation and whatever else is in her easily distracted mind. As heard on Radio 4, read in two critically acclaimed books, and seen sleeping in a hammock.
