Sky Store Buy & Keep is now available on mobile and streaming devices.
The VOD service allows customers to purchase movies online to watch digitally, only to have a DVD copy sent to them for free a few days later. It launched last year for Desktop computers and Sky’s own set top box, but now, Sky has rolled out the service to smartphones, tablets and other streaming media devices.
The Sky Store app will Sky allow customers to stream or download the titles they have purchased on their mobile devices, as well as on their Sky boxes. Non-Sky TV customers can watch through a Roku box, a NOW box, a YouView box or on their compatible mobile device. Those in Ireland can watch via a Roku box.
Nicola Bamford, Director of Sky Store, comments: “People want the simplest and most convenient way to buy and watch the movies they love, which is why it’s great news that from today Buy & Keep will be available to everyone and across multiple devices. Sky Store offers the complete service – straight to your TV, across your devices and you get the DVD in the post too.”
Watching across devices will be seamless and easy thanks to a ‘follow me’ function, which will allow Sky Store customers to start watching a movie on one of their registered devices, pause and then resume watching it on another registered device so long as they are connected to the internet. Customers can register up to four devices, with any movie able to be streamed to two devices simultaneously.
On Android devices, customers will be able to browse, watch and buy, while on iOS devices the Sky Store Player App will also enable them to browse and watch movies they have bought previously via their TV or on skystore.com.
For existing Buy & Keep customers who have already used the service on their Sky+HD box, all of the movies they have bought will automatically appear in My Library in the app, ready to stream or download. Sky customers who now Buy & Keep on mobile devices can also chose to send the movie to their Sky+ HD box as well.
Sky says that the service has been a “huge hit” since its launch in April 2014, with Sky Store “regularly being the number one digital retailer in the UK” for new movie releases. New releases through Sky Store are £13.99 and catalogue favourites are £7.99.
In the future, the service will expand to include TV and movie box sets.
