Trailer: Cobra Season 2 arrives this October

“The government is considering the evacuation of towns along the coast…” That’s the sound of Cobra returning to Sky this October – and a new trailer gives us a first look at Season 2.
Written by Ben Richards, the Sky Original drama stars Robert Carlyle as Prime Minister Robert Sutherland, and Victoria Hamilton as his Chief of Staff, Anna Marshall. Season 1 saw them fight for control as they dealt with an unfolding national emergency after catastrophic events literally throw the nation into darkness.
In the aftermath of both solar and political storms, Season 2 looks at what happens when cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure and fake news are used to subvert democracy. Titled COBRA Cyberwar, it sees Sutherland attempt to steer the country on a more even course. He is assisted, as ever, by his loyal Chief of Staff alongside a team of dedicated advisers. An assassination on British soil, however, unleashes a chain of events that threatens to develop into a crisis even more serious than the one from which the country has recently emerged. An invisible global enemy, not playing by the rules and operating outside national boundaries, appears to be bent on our destruction, leaving an entire country unsure as to who is friend and who is foe.
Starring alongside Hamilton and Carlyle, the cast includes Richard Dormer as Fraser Walker, Head of Civil Contingencies, David Haig as Archie Glover-Morgan, Marsha Thomason as Francine Bridge, Director of Policy and Richard Pepple as Joseph Obasi, Home Secretary.
Along with Richards, additional episodes are written by Toby Finlay, with Al Mackay directing block one, Mo Ali block two and Sallie Aprahamian block three. The series will premiere at 9pm on Sky Max on 15th October, with all six episodes arriving at once.

Sky renews COBRA for Season 2
13th February 2020
Sky One has renewed political thriller COBRA for a second season.
Written by Ben Richards, the Sky Original drama stars Robert Carlyle as Prime Minister Robert Sutherland, and Victoria Hamilton as his Chief of Staff, Anna Marshall. They fight for control as they deal with an unfolding national emergency after catastrophic events literally throw the nation into darkness. Under the name COBRA, a team comprised of Britain’s leading experts, crisis contingency planners and the most senior politicians must now assemble to help bring society back from the brink of collapse.
Joining the Prime Minister and his Chief of Staff are Fraser Walker, played by Richard Dormer, one of the best crisis contingency planners the country has ever known, and Home Secretary, Archie Glover-Morgan, played by David Haig – who will seize any opportunity for more power if such a chance presents itself.
The first season became one of Sky One’s most successful drama series in recent years, with a cumulative launch audience of 2.2 million, as well as being one of Sky’s most rapidly binged box sets.
“Robert Carlyle is a compellingly human lead in this bleak, absurd and hugely entertaining political thriller,” we wrote in our review.
In the second season, in the aftermath of both solar and political storms, Robert attempts to steer the country on a more even course. He is assisted, as ever, by Anna, alongside a team of dedicated advisers. An assassination on British soil, however, unleashes a chain of events that threatens to develop into a crisis even more serious. An apparently invisible global enemy, not playing by the rules and operating outside national boundaries, appears to be bent on our destruction and nobody really knows who is friend and who is foe.
Carlyle says: “I’m absolutely delighted by the audience reaction and success of Cobra. I look forward to season 2 and welcome the chance to play the PM Robert Sutherland once again.”
Written again by Ben Richards, Cobra 2 was commissioned by Sky Studios’ Director of Drama, Cameron Roach and Zai Bennett, Sky’s Managing Director of Content and will be executive produced by Gabriel Silver for Sky Studios. The series will be produced by New Pictures and the executive producers include Charlie Pattinson, and Ben Richards. Joe Donaldson is the producer. Cobra S2 will be distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.
