Sky lines up The Last Dragonslayer for Christmas

Sky is lining up The Last Dragonslayer as its main Christmas attraction this year.
Yes, we said the “C” word in October. It might sound too early to be talking mince pies and yule logs, but the festive season has an equally important tradition: big-budget TV events. And Sky is never one to shy away from a family series broadcast on the day itself.
This year, following in the footsteps of 2015’s Fungus the Bogeyman comes fantasy epic The Last Dragonslayer.
Ricky Tomlinson, John Bradley and Ellise Chappell star in the Sky 1 drama, which is based on the first of Jasper Fforde’s series of novels. The Last Dragonslayer is a family adventure set in the United Kingdoms that follows the story of orphan Jennifer Strange, who reluctantly discovers her destiny is to become – you guessed it – the last Dragonslayer.
Produced by Blueprint Pictures and GroupM Entertainment, the feature-length drama will also see Richard E Grant take on the voice of the dragon.
“I hope that people love The Last Dragonslayer as much as I did contributing my voice to a role,” he said a press launch for the show.
“From Blueprint Pictures, the makers of modern greats In Bruges and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and GroupM Entertainment (Cilla, Wild Things), comes an adventure the whole family will adore: a fantastic world where wizards and magic co-exist with television and supermarkets,” adds Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky 1.
