David Farnor | On 28, Apr 2021
Inside No 9 will officially return to our screens on 10th May, with the first details of Season 6’s opening episode now unveiled.
The anthology series, created by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, combines the scary, the silly, the surreal and the strange to craft a slice of darkly comic – and sometimes surprisingly poignant – TV. Season 6 will once again comprise six darkly comic half-hour tales, with a cast that included everyone from Sian Clifford (Fleabag) and Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty) to Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso). Sir Derek Jacobi will also become the first actor to return to the show, after providing the voice of Dennis Fulcher in the festive special The Devil of Christmas.
Episode 1 will be called Wuthering Heist and follows Pantalone, who has in an audacious plan to steal a consignment of diamonds worth a tasty twelve million. But he’s hired a complete bunch of double-crossing clowns to do it. Along for the ride are guest stars Kevin Bishop, Paterson Joseph and Gemma Whelan.
Episode 1 will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer at 9.30pm on 10th May, with episodes then arriving weekly. The announcement comes as Season 5 of Inside No 9 received two BAFTA nominations for Scripted Comedy and for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme (Reece Shearsmith).

In addition to this, Steve Pemberton won the Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme at the 2019 Bafta TV Awards.
Season 6 will once again comprise six darkly comic half-hour tales. Made by BBC Studios, it will air later this year on BBC Two, with filming now complete on the show’s sixth run.

Shearsmith and Pemberton say: “We started filming in March last year but had to hit pause due to the pandemic. After a nine-month gestation it’s a relief to finally deliver our sixth series to the world. As proud parents we couldn’t possibly choose a favourite, but like any youngest sibling this series is cheeky, funny – and can get away with murder.”
Josh Cole, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios Production, adds: “We’re delighted to have concluded filming the sixth season of Inside No. 9. It’s a unique series we could not be prouder of, and we are in awe of Reece and Steve’s extraordinary ability to continually raise the bar. Long live Inside No. 9!”
