Russell Peters stars in Netflix’s new original comedy series, The Indian Detective.
The four-part show, which arrives this December, is a fish-out-of-water story with equal doses of comedy and high-stakes drama. It follows Toronto cop Doug D’Mello (Russell Peters), as he becomes embroiled in a murder case while visiting his father, Stanley (Anupam Kher) a retired airline pilot in India. The investigation leads Doug to uncover a dangerous conspiracy involving David Marlowe, a billionaire property developer, while dealing with his own ambivalence towards a country where despite his heritage, he is an outsider.
Peters is joined by none other than William Shatner, who plays Marlowe, with the rest of the cast including Christina Cole (Suits, Casino Royale) as Constable Robyn Gerner, Doug’s partner, Hamza Haq (mother!) in a dual role as Mumbai drug lord Gopal Chandekar and his twin brother, Akshay Kumar (Star Wars Ep VIII, The Halcyon) as Gopal’s nephew, Meren Reddy (Madiba, Homeland) as Inspector Abishek Devo, a brutal, but principled Indian cop, and Mishqah Parthiephal (Keeping Up with the Kandasamys, Snake Park) as Priya Sehgal, a dedicated lawyer born into an upper-middle class family in Mumbai.
Executive produced by Frank Spotnitz (The Man in the High Castle, The X-Files) of Big Light Productions, Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron (Madiba, The Book of Negroes) of Blue Ice Pictures, and Mark Burton of Wonder Worldwide, the Canadian co-production will air on CTV Canada in November. Following its initial broadcast, it will then premiere worldwide on Netflix on Tuesday 19th December.
