It’s only a matter of weeks before we get to go back to Riverdale for a fourth season, with Netflix officially confirming the UK release date for the show’s next run.
The CW’s teen drama, which is released in the UK as a Netflix exclusive, has been a hit on both sides of the pond, introducing a wave of modern fans to the world of Archie Comics. It was swiftly renewed for a second and third run, with KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camilla Mendes and Cole Sprouse all reprising their central roles as Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Jughead. Mark Consuelos has also joined the cast as Veronica’s dodgy-dealing father, Hiram Lodge.
Now, after a shocking cliffhanger to close Season 3, Season 4 is suddenly looming on the horizon. The cast have hinted that the series will be returning to its roots by focusing on its central quartet’s relationships, a move that will kick off with an emotional opening episode penned as a tribute to Luke Perry, who tragically passed away last year and played Archie’s dad, Fred. Titled In Memoriam, the episode is expected to explain Fred’s departure from the show, as well as tee up a larger role for Molly Ringwald as Archie’s mother.
A Halloween episode has also been teased, which has led some to speculate about a potential crossover with Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, also created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. With The CW lining up its second spin-off, Katy Keene, featuring Ashleigh Murray reprising her role as Josie (of The Pussycats fame), that crossover may be more likely.
Either way, fans can find out from Thursday 10th October, when Season 4 will premiere on Netflix UK. Episodes will then arrive weekly within 24 hours of their US broadcast.
