Fleabag creator, Killing Eve writer and multiple Emmy award winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge has inked an overall deal with Amazon Studios.
Fleabag, which premiered on BBC Three in the UK, won six 2019 Emmy Awards this weekemd, including Outstanding Comedy, Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series. Before being adapted into the acclaimed television series, Fleabag first debuted as a one-woman show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013, which Waller-Bridge wrote and performed. This earned her an Olivier Award Nomination and a Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright, among other accolades. Waller-Bridge recently concluded limited, sold-out runs of her one-woman show Off-Broadway at New York’s SoHo Playhouse in April, and at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End earlier this month.
Now, the multi-hyphenate talent, who has extended her reign over the internet in the last 24 hours with a photo of her at the Emmys after party, has gone one step further, with a new deal with Amazon studios. It will see her create and produce new TV shows for Amazon Studios that will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, which is the exclusive home of Fleabag in the USA.
“I’m insanely excited to be continuing my relationship with Amazon. Working with the team on Fleabag was the creative partnership dreams are made of. It really feels like home. I can’t wait to get going!” said Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Phoebe at Amazon Studios! As evident in her great success at the Emmy Awards this week, she is clever, brilliant, generous and a virtuoso on multiple fronts including writing, acting and producing,” added Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “Fleabag has been a gift to our Prime Video customers and we are excited for what comes next from this brilliant mind to dazzle and delight our global audience.”
Waller-Bridge has also garnered acclaim as the writer and showrunner of the first season of the celebrated BBC America television series Killing Eve, which stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. The series earned Waller-Bridge a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Drama Series, as well as an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing of a Drama Series. Additional television credits on her CV include Crashing, which was her screenwriting debut, and Broadchurch. Waller-Bridge will also executive produce the eOne romantic comedic thriller Run for HBO, starring Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson.
