People Just Do Nothing Season 5 gets a trailer and release date
David Farnor | On 01, Nov 2018
People Just Do Nothing will return this month – and a new trailer gives us a glimpse of what to expect from its last ever season. That, of course, is exactly the same as its first four seasons: lots and lots of laughs.
Co-created by and starring Allan Mustafa as MC Grindah and co-starring Hugo Chegwin as DJ Beats, what started as a mockumentary series on YouTube about pirate radio station Kurupt FM has been nurtured by the Beeb, growing from a Comedy Feed pilot in 2012 to a flasgship comedy – becoming the first BBC Three show to premiere in full on BBC iPlayer along the way. After three successful runs, the show was quickly renewed for a fourth and fifth season in 2016, going on to win the BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy in May 2017.
Now, the show has been promoted to BBC Two for its fifth and final season. As we catch up with the Kurupt boys, the station has been raided, and the boys have resorted to desperate measures to stay on the air. They attempt to raise money at a car boot sale to replace their seized equipment with the help of Chabuddy G, who has a new money-making scheme. Meanwhile, Miche gets some bad news from the council and Carol has a new love interest.
Season 5 premieres on BBC Two on Monday 12th November at 10pm, with each episode airing weekly – and available on BBC iPlayer following its broadcast. Need to catch up? Season 1 to 4 are back on BBC iPlayer until 11th January 2019. Here’s the Season 5 trailer: Read why you should catch up here.
People Just Do Nothing promoted to BBC Two for fifth and final season
1st May 2018
People Just Do Nothing has been promoted to BBC for its upcoming fifth season, which will also be its last.
Now with production on the fifth season underway, BBC Three has revealed that the show has been promoted to BBC Two for its premiere, with the show available on BBC Three online too.
“We have officially been promoted to BBC Two which means we’re better and we’ll get more money probably,” says Grindah in a video released online.
“But it will also be available online to watch on BBC Three,” adds Beats. “Which is basically just the iPlayer.”
While this cements the success of the comedy, the Beeb has sadly confirmed that this will also be the end of the line for Kurupt FM.
Comedy chief Shane Allen said in a statement: “This swansong series sees the gang end things on a high, although to be fair they’ve been fairly high since day one. The love for this show is immense and we want to see them off in style but aren’t expecting Kurupt FM to be any more respectable on Two.”
We’ll bring you news of an official Season 5 air date when we get it:

People Just Do Nothing Season 4 to premiere this August
5th August 2017
BBC Three’s People Just Do Nothing will return for Season 4 this August.
Co-created by and starring Allan Mustafa as MC Grindah and co-starring Hugo Chegwin as DJ Beats, what started as a mockumentary series on YouTube about pirate radio station Kurupt FM has been nurtured by the Beeb into a staple programme, growing from a Comedy Feed pilot in 2012 to two whole seasons – becoming the first BBC Three show to premiere in full on BBC iPlayer along the way.
“How far does Kurupt reach?” our DJs are asked, as the look out over a Shepherds Bush council estate. “As far as the eye can see,” comes the proud reply. “But not that bit on the left.”
The show, though, has already built a following. Season 2 reached an average of 1.4 million viewers in total, with an average share for younger viewers (16-34s) at 4.5 per cent. Season 3 was released on BBC iPlayer last year by the online TV channel, going on to win the BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy in May.
“Shout out everyone that believed in us. We literally came from nothing on YouTube,” the makers of the show said in their acceptance speech.
The show was renewed for both a third and fourth run back in 2015, a sign of how confident BBC Three is about the talent behind and in front of the camera.
Now, we can confirm that Season 4 of the mockumentary will premiere on BBC iPlayer on 15th August. It sees Grindah (Allan Mustafa) and Steves’s (Steve Stamp) nonstop bender start to grate on the rest of Kurupt FM. Miche (Lily Brazier) is thriving and sets her sights on a modelling career for her and Angel (Olivia Jasmine Edwards). Chabuddy (Asim Chaudhry) takes Beats (Hugo Chegwin) shopping for baby stuff in the hopes of finding himself a MILF. Tensions at the station reach breaking point, meanwhile, when a rival radio station is discovered and the boys try to prevent Grindah spiralling out of control.
Never seen People Just Do Nothing? Season 1 and 2 are on Netflix UK, with Season 1 to 3 all available on BBC iPlayer until 7th October 2017.

People Just Do Nothing renewed for third and fourth season
13th October 2015
People Just Do Nothing has been renewed for a third and fourth season.
Co-created by and starring Allan Mustafa as MC Grindah and co-starring Hugo Chegwin as DJ Beats, what started as a mockumentary series on YouTube about pirate radio station Kurupt FM has been nurtured by the Beeb into a staple programme, from a Comedy Feed pilot in 2012 to two whole seasons – becoming the first BBC Three show to premiere in full on BBC iPlayer along the way.
“How far does Kurupt reach?” our DJs are asked, as the look out over a Shepherds Bush council estate. “As far as the eye can see,” comes the proud reply. “But not that bit on the left.”
“The boys did already announce the good news on Kurupt FM, but they only transmit as far as Shepherds Bush and have 50 listeners, so we thought a BBC press release might be more effective,” said producer Jon Petrie in a statement.
The show, though, has already built a following. Season 2 reached an impressive average of 1.4 million viewers in total, with an average share for younger viewers (16-34s) at 4.5 per cent.
The renewal of the series – commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy Commissioning and Damian Kavanagh, Digital Controller of BBC Three – comes at a crucial time for the Beeb, as it negotiates the renewal of its charter and, while budgets and cut and BBC Three turns into an online-only channel, needs to demonstrate its commitment to supporting breakthrough British talent.
“BBC Three will always be the home to the best and brightest new British comedy talent,” reassures Kavanagh. “I love that PJDN is coming back to BBC Three for two new series. It’s a show that started out on YouTube and look where they are now!”
Commissioning Editor Chris Sussman adds: “More and more people seem to be finding it and enjoying it. I’m delighted we’re going to be doing more of them. Hopefully the series will continue to grow, and the talented guys behind it will get the recognition they deserve.”
That noise you can hear over the airwaves this evening? That’s the boys – and the scene-stealing Asim Chaudhry as their friend with a string of incompetent and illegal businesses – cracking open a case of Polish Vodka. It doesn’t come from Poland, mind. It’s just made with window cleaner.
